ARGH! More research into this has led me to even more "scary" discoveries. As most know, the "mark of the beast", signifying the antichrist, is 666. I always believed that to be an identifying number for a certain man and perhaps it is. However, upon googling "666" and the "United Nations", I came across several "conspiracy theory websites, many of which were WAY out there. But, surprisingly, I came across http://www.fas.org/news/un/iraq/sres/sres0666.htm which is United Nations Security Council Resolution 666.
While the language in the resolution raises no red flags of an impending "antichrist" it is significant in that it deals with Iraq and addresses resolutions building up to the war with Iraq. Why did this bother me? I don't like too many coincidences surrounding something. First, Iraq is the home of Babylon. Babylon was destroyed centuries ago, but in the last days, Babylon again becomes a great city. It is described in Revelation 17 as a woman and Revelation 17:5 states This title was written on her forehead: Mystery, Babylon the Great, The Mother of Prostitutes and the Abominations of the Earth. Supposedly Saddam was in the process of rebuilding Babylon as a tourist attraction and cultural center. With Iraq now becoming a democracy, they have HUGE oil reserves that won't go into building a war machine or financing a corrupt government. They actually had a huge surplus as outlined in this story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23578542/ In 2006, the UN stated their desire to restore Babylon as "one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" as outlined in this article http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/13/news/babylon.php If this should happen, it could become the biggest attraction in all of the middle east AND Iraq would be the only prosperous democratically governed country in the middle east. This would make it a place where "all middle eastern countries can unite for the good of the world." Sounds pretty doesn't it? Peace, unity, and prosperity in the middle east. BUT, it sets up a seat of power for Islam. Islam shares many of the same testimony of the Bible, but strangely their version of the end of times is in DIRECT opposition to the Bible. I'll get into that in another post.
Secondly, upon googling "666" and the "UN", I stumbled across this article. http://www.assembly-weu.org/en/documents/sessions_ordinaires/txt/2000/jun00_txts_adopted.php Where the European Union defense is laid out. If the European Union is to be origin of the "beast," this is one more coincidence. Surprisingly, the Western European Union is made up of ten permanent member states as described here http://www.nato.int/docu/handbook/2001/hb1504.htm There are also associate members, observers, etc, but the number 10 is significant. The antichrist is to come from the "beast" which has ten horns as is Revelation 17:3 "Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns." The European Union continues to debate whether to elect a supra-president who would have powers above the leaders of individual member states. In Revelation 17:9, the writer interprets the dream "This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits." Rome, coincidentally, was formed on a seven hill settlement as referenced here http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Ancient_History/Rome/Origins Revelation was written in the first one hundred years after Christ's death. The writer had no clue that the Catholic Church would be established during subsequent years and would be seated in Rome. Again, this leads me to believe that there is a possibility the Antichrist will be in alliance with the Catholic Church. Will they sanction the attack on Israel?
I do have to say that my research has found MANY websites supporting the theory that the Antichrist will manifest himself as the Pope, however, I must say, for now I'm not too convinced. I'm leaning more towards the Catholic church unkowingly supporting the "beast" and am even more certain that the woman riding the beast is the Catholic church. It's a shame because I have family members an friends who are Catholics. Keep in mind I didn't say that they were all not saved. I'm just of the mindset that they may be involved in a religion which will assist the Antichrist.

Hmmmm...the Pope and My Thoughts
According to what I understand regarding the Pope, he is the "Vicar of Christ" and as such, is the representative of Christ? Yes, it's a question and I would like clarification if I'm wrong. But in the end, my contention is that he's just a man. As any other devout believer in the world is, so goes the Pope. He's just voted in by the other Cardinals with no divine intervention (other than prayer) involved. Following basic logic, this makes it possible (I didn't say probable) that the Pope could be the Antichrist just as any other man on earth.
I began searching the Bible (NIV) for references of men being treated with respect as you would give Christ and came across Acts 10:25-26...As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself."
Also in Acts chapter 14:14-18, But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: "Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. In the past, he let all nations go their own way. Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy." Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.
Then there's John 14:6, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me. This verse indicating that he wants direct prayer, not prayer through another human or even saints. Also, Hebrews 14:14-16, Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Also, there's Jesus actually telling us how to pray in Matthew 6:6-9,But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name," So Jesus himself tells us to pray "to your Father," not the Pope, not to any saints. He also tells us to address God directly "Our FATHER, in heaven hallowed be YOUR name," again not the Pope, not any saints.
So, at a basic level of logical thinking, the Antichrist could return and sooner or later, become the Pope. Remember that Satan is the "great deceiver" and acting as the Pope would be the ultimate deception. Would God allow such a thing? Like I said, if we hold a man in reverence, it would be easy for us to suddenly say, "Christ came back as the Pope!" and many would be deceived. Seems like I saw something regarding the Antichrist coming from Rome...or similar such language. I'll keep looking....can anyone help?

Revelation Revealed?
On May 13, 2008, the Vatican announced that it is okay to believe in alien life forms and not contradict the Bible. I've always believed that. However, with that announcement comes the church's ability to explain away the prophetic events of Revelation 11:3:11-12. The Vatican will now be able to say that aliens brought the dead prophets to life and took them up into their ships. I've often wondered how this event wouldn't open everyone's eyes to the fact that the end times are here. Now I have my answer.
I'm definitely not a Catholic basher...shoot...I have MANY friends and family members who are devout Catholics and believers of Christ. However, I'm becoming increasingly concerned that the Anti-Christ may come from within the Vatican. Please don't bash me for saying this. I'll post more evidence which is leading me to this conclusion in further blogs and will be happy to debate this because I don't want to believe it myself!! Evidence is evidence and it would be irresponsible of me to NOT say anything about it until I can be convinced otherwise. Help me do this, but please consider what I have to say prior to attacking me.
